Answers About Autism
Vanessa Parker, MA has been working with children and adults with developmental disabilities since 2002. The purpose of her Yahoo group “Answers About Autism” is to provide behavioral solutions and support to questions and concerns that you may have regarding your relative or friend with autism. Information will be provided to questions such as:
How to manage tantrums?
Methods to encourage communication with non-verbal children?
How/when to utilize sensory interventions?
How/why to implement a schedule?
Ways to increase community safety and awareness?
The group leader, Vanessa Parker, has 10+ years of experience and education working with families and children with ASD and would like to offer support, feedback, and answers to people in need of answers, support, and help related to Autism. Here are some recent topics:
Use Specific Phrases to Shape Positive Behaviors. Many people over use phrases like, “good job” or, “nice work” when praising their loved ones with ASD. Autism Speaks Toolkit
As many of you probably already know, the autism speaks website offers great resources that you can utilize. Now they are offering “tool kits” of suggestions, tips, and instructions for things like, IEP’s and how to prepare for them, help with problem sleepers, help for going to the dentist, getting blood drawn, getting a haircut, etc.. They only ask that you register if you are going to print/download the “Tool Kits”.
